Haiti might hold general elections in August 2025, a vital step to reestablish the order and constitutionality that this Caribbean country lacks at present.

Bahamas Prime Minister Phillip Davis announced at a press conference on Wednesday at the end of the 46th Ordinary Meeting of the Caribbean Community (Caricom).

“I think it is important to note that in our deliberations, particularly with Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry, a number of important steps and concessions were made to move the political process forward,” he said.

“We consider the holding of general elections a significant step forward to restore the constitutional government and authority no later than August 31, 2025,” Davis pointed out, as quoted by Le Nouvelliste newspaper.

We have agreed to create a task force to assess Haiti’s needs and electoral machinery, which involves Caricom, the United Nations, and Canada, among other political stockholders.

We are deeply concerned about the ongoing deterioration of Haiti’s security and humanitarian situation, as well as the continued delay in overcoming the political impasse, which is blocking the possibility of free and fair elections,” said Davis.

Caricom called on all Haitian leaders, including the current Government, to be able to sit down and make the necessary concessions to solve the political crisis.

“We believe this is an important step in the right direction,” the Bahamian prime minister stressed. (https://www.plenglish.com/news/2024/03/01/haiti-might-hold-general-elections-in-august-2025/)
